Today was the end of my latest assignment with the Army. We had to be on a bus off-base by 5:00 in the morning, even though my flight didn’t leave until 10:45. I slept for a couple of hours in the airport, and more in the sky between Chicago-O’Hare and home.
I have less than a week to prepare for my time at the National Training Center.
I wrote entries day by day while I was gone, but — due to no personal Internet availability — couldn’t post them until I got home. The entries can be found through these links:

Date: 2008-07-28 02:53 am (UTC)No, age isn't the barrier. The problem, for me, comes with the effects of age on an already sub-optimal physique. I’ve gone a long way on sheer determination, but I can see that after a certain point even total dedication won’t be enough to compensate for mounting deficiencies. Others can do it — they started with a better set of personal equipment — but my own limits are fast approaching.
They just haven’t arrived yet. I have some good service left in me, and a little more is all I need.
