Dear Remixer,
Mar. 4th, 2008 02:56 pmSome of my stories are off-limits because they’re co-written with other people. Some can’t be touched because they themselves are remixes of stories by others. And, of course, there’s the safe story. Plus, my main site is a little short of update. Because of that, I’ve done a list of eligible stories (with brief descriptions), in the cut.
Backstage Series (linked stories in the world of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel: the Series)
“Point of Focus” – Joyce-centric, ensemble, action.
“Come to My Window” – Sheila (from “School Hard”), no mainline Buffy characters.
“Shadow and Substance” – Three background Buffy characters, none of the core Scoobies.
“All Ye Who Enter” – Joyce gets a visit from Angelus.
“Twilight’s Last Gleaming” – Events in Sunnydale more than fifteen years before Season 1; no mainline Buffy characters.
“Morning’s Echo” – Three linked vignettes between Seasons 3 and 4.
“Solitaire Till Dawn” – Action, angst, no core Scoobies.
“In Ev’ry Angle Greet” – AU, action, ensemble.
“Hell Hath No Fury” – Pre-Season 6 (barely); action, no core Scoobies.
“None So Blind” – Five POVs during Season 5.
“Whisper of a Moment” – Xander’s Kerouac summer, complete with a mysterious female.
“… Than Meets the Eye” – Events in Sunnydale in Season 5 (circa “the Body”); brief appearances by core Scoobies.
“Notes on an Opera Program” – Technically set in A:tS (S2), but observations about Buffy characters.
“Tip of My Tongue” – Why Hank Summers really went missing.
“Each Proud Division” – Four Slayers, Sunnydale, Season 6, plus Tara and Jonathan.
“the Human Touch” – Set during “Halloween” (Season 2), but no core Scoobies.
“Ex Post Facto” – Short letter to Faith.
“the Still, Small Voice” – Between Seasons 6 and 7; no core Scoobies.
“Phase Shift” – AU, set in A:tS, Doyle and Gwen.
“Dusk Over Pompeii” – Buffy/Xander at the end of the world (Season 4).
“Glass Ceiling” – Cordelia (more or less) in limbo, lots of action and strangeness.
“Beg to Differ” – A rogue Watcher. A bound vampire. Sex and violence, with a twist at the end.
“First Do No Harm” – She’s not Buffy, but she answers to the name. Wackiness ensues.
“Yet to Be Seen” – Marcy Ross before “Out of Mind, Out of Sight”.
“Learning Curve” – A problem Slayer is sent to Xander. Post-“Chosen”.
“Precious Cargo” – Set in Season 7, regarding mementoes shipped out of Sunnydale.
Independent Stories (Buffy or Angel stories unlinked to the Backstage Series or to each other)
“Voices in the Dark” – Five POVs of Buffy during Season 3. All observation, no action.
“Perish the Thought” – A Slayer’s companion awaits rescue.
“Seeking the Woman” – BtVS/La Femme Nikita crossover.
“Rorschach” – Warren Mears takes a personality assessment test.
Drabbles (Buffy or Angel, also unlinked)
“Memory”
“Adversary”
“Soulless”
“Parting Shot”
“Quatrain” – four linked drabbles
Other Fandoms
“Savant” [Alias] – Marshall-centric, no action.
“Icarus” [Superman] – The aftermath of hard choices.
Aside from that, feel free. My own preference — obviously — is for genfic, but the whole point of a remix is to write the story you would have done if you’d had the idea first. Some of my stories include relationships, but most don’t, so if you want to add a ’ship, there’s usually room to squeeze one in.
Though I’ve written three remixes, I’ve only been remixed once myself, so I’m very interested in seeing what someone else would do with one of my ideas. Don’t feel constrained to follow my approach, style, or preferences; the fun part, for me, is seeing someone go in a direction that never occurred to me.
remixredux08, at its core, is a celebration both of similarities (love of fanfic) and difference (where that love takes us). As far as I’m concerned, the only boundaries are in the remix rules. Past that, sky’s the limit.
