I could tackle this the way [livejournal.com profile] velvetwhip did, listing out multiple folks who absolutely do deserve recognition. I believe I’d rather focus on a few, however, recognizing that this will result in slighting many.

Fiction

A relatively recent discovery (at least for me) would be DianeCastle. “Xander and Yet ANOTHER Demon” (Buffy/SG-1 crossover) is non-stop hilarity that makes sense in the presented scenario. Then, “the Secret Return of Alex Mack” can’t be fully appreciated without having first read “the League of Extraordinary Women”, which isn’t exactly a hardship, but be warned: don’t start unless you have a few weeks to spare, because together they comprise one-point-three million words of multiple-multiple-multiple crossovers.

Phouka (or Phoukabro, I no longer bother to keep track of who’s actually posting under that name/in that account) is someone I’ve pointed to before; the massive collection of stories in “Oh, the Places He Goes” (Xander-centric crossovers) is a standing delight, and I also liked the stories — particularly the first — in the smaller “Evolve or Die” series. I’m currently enjoying a set of stories that operate as a subset of yet another series, these later stories being Dawn-centric and covering her preparations to go to (and then arriving at) college abroad in a rather … unique and demanding study environment. In order — since this ‘subset’ isn’t listed separately — the stories are:

  1. “Matriculate This!” (each chapter essentially a separate story)
    – “School Prep
    – “Goodbye, Hello
    – “the Sweating Spires of Oxford
    – “Entrance Examination
  2. the Doctor and the Key” (which takes awhile to actually get to Dawn at college)
  3. Welcome to Strelsau, Dawn” (WIP, but coming along nicely)
Finally, [livejournal.com profile] jedibuttercup. I actually encountered her when she first started in Buffyfic, with the first version of her “Lesser Men” story (which she’s since revised, and I’ve never got around to reading the revision). The thing is, I’m sure she’s had single days where she turned out more crossovers than I’ve managed in my entire life. Usually not long, or with as much action as I would prefer in a full story, but there are so many of them, and so imaginative, and so replete with insights and angles, she functions as a familiar and reliable source of diversion. (Most of them aren’t even silly, though there’s silliness galore.)

Artwork

It’s only recently that I’ve been more than absently aware of this category, but I’m definitely paying attention now. [livejournal.com profile] gillo started it when she made a cover banner for my story “Oaxaca Nights” (the link is to the story itself, but you can of course see her banner there). Then [livejournal.com profile] comlodge did one for me for “Point of Focus”, and later for “Shock to the System”. Then the momentum gathered, and I got one from [livejournal.com profile] blondebitz for “In Ev’ry Angle Greet”, followed within a few weeks by [livejournal.com profile] angelus2hot gifting me with one for “Morning’s Echo”. The most recent was from my daughter [livejournal.com profile] sroni, for “Solitaire Till Dawn” … and, while being the most technically unsophisticated, may well be the one best suited to its story (with the possible exception of [livejournal.com profile] blondebitz’s ingenious approach to “In Ev’ry Angle Greet”):

To close, a repeat of an earlier observation: [livejournal.com profile] teragramm’s fanart, a recent discovery, with ‘Witchy Willow’ and ‘Earth Mother Tara’ being the ones that most impressed me, and her cover for [livejournal.com profile] slaymesoftly’s “Every Time You Say Goodbye” showing just what can be DONE with fanfic cover art.

Awards site

This pretty much automatically defaults to [livejournal.com profile] dragonydreams for the Sunnydale Memorial Fanfiction Awards. SMFA comes closest to replacing the long-gone Halo Awards … and, honestly, may have reached the point where it’s measured up to the old standard and gone beyond everything except my insistent nostalgia.

Honorable mention to [livejournal.com profile] angelus2hot for the No Rest for the Wicked Awards ([livejournal.com profile] wicked_awards), and to [livejournal.com profile] mara_sho for the White Knight Awards (there was no round last year for WKA, and I’m not sure it’s still active, but it’s nonetheless been a pleasure over the years).

Well, that should do it.

You have terrific people on this list!

[livejournal.com profile] dragonydreams also runs the amazing Willowy Goodness Awards, so she does a heck of a lot when it comes to recognition for the authors in this fandom.
