Fandom Snowflake Challenge #6
In your own space, share a favorite piece of original canon (a show, a specific TV episode, a storyline, a book or series, a scene from a movie, etc.) and explain why you love it so much. Leave a comment here saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
I’ve offered this example before, but here it is again because it keeps being true: the use of Sarah McLachlan’s song “Full of Grace” as the background for the ending of Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 2. The song itself was perfect for what was shown … but what was shown was just as perfectly chosen to go with the song. Masterful blend of music, imagery, acting, timing, scenes chosen. For those not up on the series, the sequence starts immediately after the title character 1] just finished (she thinks) killing her ‘one true love’ to save the world, 2] has been expelled from school, 3] is being sought by police on suspicion of murder, 4] was told by her mother to not bother coming back if she left the house (to save the world). It can currently be seen here, for as long as Youtube doesn’t remove it or change the link.
Another final scene, which I think I’ve also cited before: the end of the last episode in the last season of Newhart (here), when things have gone so completely crazy and innkeeper Dick Loudon (Newhart) is felled by a golf ball to the head … and wakes up as Bob Hartley (from the earlier Bob Newhart Show), in bed with his TV wife Emily (Suzanne Pleshette). The funny part is that, even though the room was dark when he sat up in bed, I can specifically remember letting out an “Aah-h-hhh!!!” of anticipation because I recognized the bedroom, I realized what was coming even before the recognition was complete. Delightful, totally, and a nice memory even now.
And, if more is needed, something more recent and immediately recognizable: MCU Tony Stark, in Avengers: Endgame, answering the Thanos line “I am … inevitable” with “And I. Am. Iron Man.” (Snap!) Perfect Tony Snark, and deliberate echo of his ending line from the first Iron Man movie, which marked the effective beginning of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. No video link this time, because honestly, who hasn’t seen that one?

Date: 2024-01-12 12:44 am (UTC)I just watched the end of Endgame the other day (my dad stumbled on the movie and decided to watch it since he'd never seen it before). I watched the whole battle scene and cried like a baby (again) when Tony died. Just an amazing scene all around.
