Twenty-seventh day in China – August 07 Monday

Our last full day in China, though we’ll leave so late tomorrow that it’s only technically not a full day.

I somehow left the alarm off on my phone when I went to bed last night, so it was past 10:00AM before I woke up. Showered, shaved, woke Susan.

We had expected that Kevin would get in touch with us, which he did. We met him downstairs and across the street, and had lunch again at Gaga. Once that was over, he got back to his business; and, following directions she had received from him, we went back toward the area we’d visited some weeks ago, and bought some cough syrup (at a pharmacy), some fruit (at a smaller store, hospitality gifts for the Yins), and a couple of combs (at an outdoor stall, presents for a friend of Susan’s on our return home).

Made our way back to the apartment, undressed (it had been very humid outside, and we’d got sweaty), and rested in our respective bedrooms.

I got up once I’d cooled down properly, did some stuff on my laptop. Susan woke up around 5:00PM, and of course wanted to start immediately over to the Yins’. Which we pretty promptly did. She took the last of Amber’s present-a-day gifts (a hairbrush for her Samantha doll, some knitted things that Amber could use for washcloths or small-doll blankets). Susan also turned over to Laura the fruit purchases we’d made at the market. I gave Logan the bottle of Jim Beam I’d picked up the other day, and he said he’d probably open it for their Autumn Festival.

Mei‑li showed up, dinner began, Kevin showed up. A bit more conversation than usual, because everyone was aware we’d be leaving tomorrow (though, again, very late tomorrow, flight not scheduled to take off till close to midnight). I established that Cristina was back in China and again giving Amber lessons, and I asked Kevin to tell her that Susan and I really appreciated the way she’d taken care of us in Spain.

Back to our apartment by 7:30PM. Kevin visited with us for a bit, but not as long as he has on other evenings. He headed home, and Susan started folding clothes for packing.

(Not me. I’ll take care of that tomorrow, because we essentially have all day.)

On to bed.
