Spain/China 2023, continuing (30)

Sixteenth day in China – July 27 Thursday

Up 8:30AM to shower and shave. I let Susan sleep till 10:30AM, then woke her so she wouldn’t lose too much of a day.

We still haven’t been able to make the apartment TV work, so I connected my laptop to it and watched a movie I’d saved there. Then we went out for lunch. Tried a dim sum place a bit down from where we ate yesterday, but it was crowded and we couldn’t make ourselves understood (Susan has a translation app on her phone, but it isn’t connecting outside the apartment, I think she’s out of data minutes on her current plan), so we returned to yesterday’s restaurant. They remembered us, and Susan called Kevin so he could tell them which of the dishes from yesterday we wanted to have again.

Back at the apartment, Susan and I both had naps. I woke first, did some reading and then woke her at 4:30PM. We went over to the Yins’; Laura did all the cooking, with Logan never making an appearance. (I don’t know if he was absent entirely or just lying up in his room, Mei‑li’s explanation of last night was that he’d been tired and too stubborn to admit it, which made him short-tempered.)

After the dinner, Mei‑li took Amber to her piano lesson. A few minutes later, Kevin asked if we’d like to see that. It was in their apartment, two buildings over in the same complex as the Yins’. We hung out for that; Amber apparently got self-conscious and made mistakes which frustrated her, and Kevin and Susan both gave her advice on going easy on herself.

Mei‑li had told us another typhoon was expected, and that this one was likely to affect us more. In fact, it started raining heavily while we were there. Kevin waited, checking now and again, and around the end of the lesson he decided the rain had diminished enough that he could take us back to our own apartment. (We used two umbrellas, Susan holding one over herself in the wheelchair and me covering Kevin and myself with the other.)

He waited around for a bit, the usual visiting, then returned home. Susan went to bed pretty much immediately afterward. I read for a bit, then to bed after 11:30PM.
