Twelfth day in China – July 23 Sunday

Up 8:00AM, shower and shave. I checked with Susan, confirmed that she was feeling ‘iffy’ enough that she wasn’t going to attempt the four hours Kevin and Mei‑li allot to eating out before church, then choir practice, then Mass itself. I sent Kevin notice of this, adding that I’d be staying with her.

Susan hadn’t slept well. Kevin had arranged a two-bedroom apartment for us because she claims I snore, and a separate bedroom would address that. I got the room with the bigger bed, simply because it had less room on the sides, and she would have trouble getting out of it if she needed a bathroom trip during the night. Additionally, however, it turns out mine was a lot softer than hers … and, last night, she’d been aware of the over-firmness of the mattress. I had her try out my bed, and — having given the matter some thought — I had her lie down widthwise of the end of the bed, so she’d be able to get out easily enough.

With that as a help, she spent much of the day asleep, while I read and did some minor editing on different stories on my various sites. I also had cup-a-noodles, for breakfast and then for lunch.

Around 4:45PM Kevin showed up to walk us to the Yins’ apartment. He’d sent advance word, so we were ready to go. We had our dinner there, and did some light visiting with him and Amber and Mei‑li. He had an English lesson to deliver (he still does some tutoring and some copywriting contracting on the side), and so walked us back to our apartment pretty much as soon as we were done.

Susan lay down again, but soon found — as before — that her bed was too hard. She came in to lie on my bed, using a sleep mask while I kept going on my laptop. I made my own bedtime, in her room, around 11:45PM.
