Spain/China 2023, continuing (22)

Eighth day in China – July 19 Wednesday

Up about 10:30AM. Susan slept for another hour after that.

We made a choice to stay in (again) for lunch. I had noodles, Susan ate bread and cheese that she’d stuck back. I did go downstairs and across to Baker & Spice to get a caramel latte for her.

I worked more on my summer_of_giles story … and, to my surprise, finished it in one long pull, writing as much today as in all previous sessions put together. (Still not a particularly long story, just as long as it was going to be.)

Late afternoon, we walked over to the Yins’, busied ourselves till Mei‑li showed up and dinner was ready. Kevin came in just after we started (that happens so often, I’ve begun to wonder why they don’t just wait till he gets in), and we had another fine traditional meal from Logan.

(Right at the end, Mei‑li got a post on her phone and said something to Amber, who let out a little scream; Amber had a piano lesson scheduled for this evening, and they were now late. Mei‑li and Amber out the door right then.)

Once we were done eating, Logan turned on the television and let us choose what we wanted to watch. Susan chose an episode of Poirot.

When that was over, Kevin walked back with us to the apartment. I’d been checking my Bank of America account, and most of the transactions labeled “Processing” were still in that status, so I elected to wait till they had finished before we tried to make more rent payments. Kevin texted the apartment agent about that, and he said that was fine (since we’re now paid ahead on the time we’ve already been in place, just have to take care of the time remaining).

One thing I didn’t remember from previous visits to Shenzhen, and it may be new since then: wherever you go, outside, you’ll pass and be passed by delivery drivers riding electric scooters. Lots of deliveries in downtown Shenzhen.

Kevin visited a bit, then moved on with his evening. I did some reading and some laptop work, to bed just after 11:30PM.
