Spain/China 2023, continuing (18)
Jul. 15th, 2023 11:45 pmFourth day in China – July 15 Saturday
I woke around 3:00AM, had trouble getting back to sleep. When I did, I slept till 10:30 or so.
Susan woke me because we’d been invited back over to the Yin apartment, so I dressed out and we walked over. Yesterday, as we were leaving, Amber had written a letter of complaint and given it to her father; she felt she was having to do too much homework. (Chinese schools assign stuff over the summer to keep kids from forgetting too much during that downtime.) Her parents responded by giving her — oh, yeah, you guessed it — more homework. If she was annoyed by that, she’d apparently got over it by the time we arrived.
We sat around and visited. Kevin was out for a meeting with some people (business), but Mei‑li was there with Amber. Laura made lunch for us, somewhat closer to noon. After that, Susan and I went back to our own (rented) apartment, and (still feeling the deficit from last night), I lay down for an afternoon nap.
In the afternoon we returned to the Yin apartment; Mei‑li or her mother had made us some type of soup designed to soothe our throats (Susan is almost completely recovered, but I’d picked up a much lesser version of her chest cold — and was likewise almost over it — but both of us still get occasional coughing), and we waited around and talked about things. Kevin returned from his meeting, Laura made dinner, we all ate.
In the neighborhood of 8:00PM, Kevin and Mei‑li and Amber left to return to their own apartment; they’ve spent so much time with Mei‑li’s mother, I honestly had forgot they actually live separately. Susan and I likewise went back to our current home.
Susan watched some stuff on television (streaming, channeled via HDMI cable through my laptop), I did some reading, then I went on to bed at 10:00PM.
