First (full) day in China – July 12 Wednesday

Up around 9:30AM (China time, which I’ll be using till we’re on our way back home) to shower and shave. Susan woke up around 11:30AM.

Kevin came over somewhat after noon, and took us out to lunch at a place called Gaga, on the same block as our apartment building. On the way back afterward, we all stopped in at a 7Eleven to pick up some small supplies: Coke Zero for me, green tea for Susan, add-water bowl-a-noodle things for light snacks for us both. I’d put on laundry before we went out, and on our return I hung it up to dry. (In China, clothes dryers are for commercial laundries and weirdos.)

Kevin returned to his own apartment, very near our current location. With the spare time and the beds convenient, Susan and I both lay down for a nap.

He came back in the early evening, and we walked together — well, wheeled Susan — to the apartment of the Yins, Mei‑li’s family. Logan, Mei‑li’s father, was out of town visiting with his own father, who isn’t well, but Mei‑li’s mother Laura was there (along with Mei‑li and Amber), and she fixed dinner for us all. The three generations of women left for a movie at 7:00PM; we remained there for a bit talking with Kevin, then he walked with us back to our ‘own’ apartment.

I genuinely can’t remember if he stayed to visit, or left and for a bit and then returned, but I know he was talking with us about various things till at least 9:30PM. After he left, I started another load of laundry, to take care of the clothes we hadn’t washed yet, and hung them up as well when the washer finished.

Susan went on to bed; I was reading and not sleepy, and it was a lot longer than that before I called it a night.
