We stopped at some kind of truck stop/quiki-mart about two in the morning. I got a sandwich and a big bottle of water, and then slept more or less until we reached Las Vegas.
Then, at the airport, I pulled out the mini-sleeping bag I bought at Guantanamo, and sacked out on the floor for another hour before the ticketing desks opened. Once we got through ticketing and upstairs, there were another few hours before time to leave.
More waiting once we arrived at the airport in Houston, then more sleeping on the plane from Houston to my home state. From there, I rode with the detachment CO back to our unit headquarters. We filled out paperwork — three different kinds — and I agreed to come in tomorrow to help unpack the metal shipping container that contains all the sensitive items (arriving overland by truck). Then I got into my car, which had been waiting in the unit parking lot for the past three weeks, and drove home.
Susan was there, of course.
It’s good to be back.
