Day 22 at (and Leaving) NTC
Aug. 23rd, 2008 11:59 pmLong day of not much of anything. Lying around in the billeting tent while other people took care of the final arrangements for our departure late tonight. We did some weapons cleaning (light, in my case, since I’d never had occasion to fire mine), but that was pretty much it.
I called Susan and our son and talked to them separately (she managed somehow to adopt an injured horse while I was away), and left a voice mail message for my younger brother, who had a birthday while I was out of cell phone contact. He called back while I was out hanging around the PX. He has kind of a negative outlook on life right now, which means I need to check in more often once I’m back home.
Eventually there was nothing left to do, so I made my way to the movement control center. We waited there for almost five hours, until finally the bus arrived.
I dozed off shortly after the bus left Fort Irwin, somewhere around midnight.
