Day the 8th at Fort McCoy
Jul. 17th, 2008 06:31 pmI’m getting an ominous feeling. We’re done with practically all of the items for which we’ve been given test sheets, so unless the next eight days are taken up with classroom instruction, I suspect that we’re about to be hit with a round of tasks yet unknown to us. So far, though we’re working at a higher level, the course has actually been easier than the first-level precursor I attended four years ago. I just hope it continues that way.
It’s raining now, with more rain projected for the next three days. None of that, of course, will prevent us from going out at 5:00 every morning (rise at 4:00, arrive at the field by 5:00) for PT. Some things are simply inescapable.
I called Susan during my lunch hour today. She was afraid I’d be mad at her, because she’d damaged the garage door. Not an issue at all, we settled it in seconds. The rest of the time was spent simply reconnecting with each other. We’re both constantly astonished at how happy we are now. For so long during our first marriage, nothing worked, we were operating from different planes of existence, caring for each other didn’t change the fact that we couldn’t stand each other. Now we both stop periodically to marvel at how lucky we are, and to wonder just how this ever came about.
Once more we finished early enough today to watch a further Band of Brothers episode, then we were turned loose for the day. Naturally for me, that means completing today’s LJ record (this), going to the gym to do a few miles on the treadmill and check my weight, then divert myself as I wish for the hour, hour and a half till bedtime.
(I did, after lunch break, successfully retest on my single deficiency, and got a couple of other items out of the way during the other part of the day. With the exception of the single bobble — two, counting my initial weight excess — everything has gone smoothly till now.)
Some of the guys are getting together tomorrow night to see the new Batman movie. I think I’ll probably feel that a full night’s sleep is more important to me.
