I really wanted to continue my weight loss program, as it stood, for one more day. This afternoon, however, I had a minor problem with, oh, throwing up. I was mystified — nothing like this has ever happened to me, except in cases of minor food poisoning — but after the second such occurrence, a light dawned. When I’ve fasted in the past, I relied on diet soft drinks to maintain my fluid intake; this time, purely for convenience, I stuck with water. It didn’t occur to me that, with plain water, no food, and daily strenuous exercise, I might be depleting my electrolytes. Severely.

So, adjustment. I had a light supper (a small salad and an orange, with a small glass of 1% milk and another of Diet Coke), and I’ll see how I do on one meal a day for awhile. According to the gym scales, I lost fourteen pounds in four days. If I can continue to drop even half a pound a day, for the time remaining, I’ll beat the record here.

In other news, I spoke to Susan on the phone today. She’d gotten a call from our daughter, saying that she’s engaged now, to a guy with whom she’d broken up prior to her visit with us this summer. Honestly, I don’t know how to deal with that. [livejournal.com profile] sroni’s relationships have tended to follow a volatile course, which makes me wonder if she had a good foundation for an engagement, much less a marriage. I want to support her — Susan and I have been wondering when we would ever have grandchildren — but I’d feel a lot more comfortable if I had evidence that this is a good thing.

Plus, we still don’t know if she’ll be making a return trip to China.

Tomorrow will carry me a third of the way through this course. So far, it’s not especially demanding, we just have to figure out which hoops they’re holding up and them jump through them in a suitable fashion. All the same, I’ll be happy when it’s over.

Theoretically, this will make me strongly eligible for promotion.

Here’s hoping.
