Given Susan’s chiropractic regimen (the doctor had said he should be able to have her walking without pain after six months), I had thought we would be able to resume RV travels sometime in June.

Well, that changed.

Our granddaughter Amber, in China, is studying Spanish. (With Mandarin, English, and the provincial dialect of her grandparents, that makes her fourth language.) Her Spanish tutor, herself from Spain, arranged a visit there for Amber and the family this summer, three weeks starting at the end of June. And Mei-li contacted us to see if we wanted to join them on that. Susan, of course, accepted immediately. I kind of like the idea myself.

It’s going to cost, though. This is an actual formal tour, not just a visit, and we pulled the total of Susan’s savings to cover that; then we’ll need to come up with a few thousand more for the plane tickets. But we’ll get to see our granddaughter directly — not just on Skype or WeChat — for the first time in four years.

And, in Ireland, [livejournal.com profile] sroni and her husband are checking to see if they might be able to jump in on it as well. That part is still up in the air, but if it comes out, it’ll be the first time we’ve all been together since Kevin’s wedding in 2014, and the only time so far for all three families.

So let’s see how that winds up working out.

When things that important come up you make it happen irregardless of money or time. We're spending more money than we usually do on a vacation this August because it will probably be the last trip with a dear friend suffering from Parkinsons. Ultimately, such things are worth it.
