Fandom Snowflake Challenge #12
In your own space, tell us who you would recast in a film, tv series or webseries, or maybe someone voicing a cartoon or videogame. Or who would you cast to play a character in a book, comic or maybe even your own fiction? Leave a comment here saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
This one is easy for me, and I probably won’t be the only person giving the same answer. I know that when Buffy the Vampire Slayer was first being cast, many different actresses were auditioned for the title character (several of whom wound up being on the show in other roles). Most intriguingly from my point of view, Sarah Michelle Gellar was tested for the role of Cordelia — since, I understand, she had played a similar role in her previous acting career — while Charisma Carpenter auditioned for the role of Buffy. While I think the eventual result worked out great, I would love to see DVDs from a parallel timestream where the two actresses actually got their originally intended roles, just to see how that would play and how it would compare to the BtVS we know.
It’s also been reported that the BtVS episode “I Was Made to Love You” was originally planned with Britney Spears in the role of the lovelorn robot April, before she had to opt out from scheduling conflicts. I really wish it were possible to see how that would have gone.
Finally (and still holding onto the Buffy connection), I heard that Marc Blucas was in contention for the role of Captain America when the MCU was still in its planning stages. I liked him and I was disappointed when it didn’t go to him. Since then, Chris Evans turned in such a fantastic performance that it’s all but impossible to imagine anyone else could have done better, but I still would enjoy seeing how Blucas would have done if he had been chosen.
So there you are. Fun.
