Caitlin Todd frowned at the file. “An Army base?”

Her supervisor nodded. “Except the accused left the Army when his enlistment expired, then went into the Marines after 9-11. Now he’s one of ours.”

Peering over Todd’s shoulder, Anthony DiNozzo exclaimed, “He stole a rocket launcher?”

“On guard duty when it disappeared,” Leroy Jethro Gibbs corrected. “Records review finally caught up to him.”

“Six years ago,” Todd said, reading further. “Not too cold a trail —”

“Uh, boss?” DiNozzo interjected. “The base doesn’t exist anymore. Or the town.”

Gibbs gave him a flat stare. “Still our job. And we’ll do it.”

I would never have thought about crossing Buffy and NCIS but I love it. That would explain the one she used against the Judge. Well done.

The original idea (years ago, and never followed up till now) would have been for JAG. When the time came, though, NCIS — which, I believe, is actually a JAG spin-off — got the win. And, yes, the one Buffy used on the Judge.

I’d been going on something I heard from my wife, not my own direct knowledge, but I just checked and found this online: In 2003, “a two-part JAG episode with the titles ‘Ice Queen’ and ‘Meltdown’ introduced fans to a team from the Naval Criminal Investigative Service or NCIS. Led by Special Agent in Charge Leroy Jethro Gibbs, the NCIS team was tasked with investigating Commander Rabb …” So yes, NCIS is a spin-off more successful than its parent series.

Nicely done. The idea of Gibbs investigating the madness of Sunnydale is eternally appealing.

Trying to do it while the town was still there … that would be crazy-making. With base and town gone, just a headache.

That drabble is awesome! So much impact in so few words! The surprise of the rocket launcher, how long it took to investigate, the town no longer being there, lol! Loved it.

Nice little real world intrusion into the Buffyverse. I can just see the NCIS team mulling this one over, coming to grips with all the oddities. I have a fondness for NCIS crossovers and this one satisfied quite nicely.

More a hint than a narrative, but it does trigger the imagination.
