What made you start writing fanfic?
Which of your own fanfics have you re-read the most?
Describe the differences between your first fanfic and your most recent fanfic.
Do you think your style has changed over time? How so?
You’ve posted a fic anonymously. How would someone be able to guess that you’d written it?
Name three stories you found easy to write.
Name three stories you found difficult to write.
What’s your ratio of hits to kudos?
What do your fic bookmarks say about you?

What’s a theme that keeps coming up in your writing?

There used to be several, but my previously-mentioned desire to avoid telling the same story again and again has gradually weeded out most of them. Some examples follow.

Deception/using a false name:Shadow and Substance”, “Hell Hath No Fury”, “… Than Meets the Eye”.

Different forms of not-evil (or semi-sorta-not-really-evil) vampire:Come to My Window”, “Shadow and Substance” again, “Twilight’s Last Gleaming”, “the Human Touch”, “Beg to Differ”.

Other canon characters as Slayer:Point of Focus”, “Perish the Thought”, “Each Proud Division”, “God Save the Queen”.

Undesirable present — or threatening future, or just-weird alternative reality — headed off and nullified by the characters’ actions: “Point of Focus”, “All Ye Who Enter”, “Beg to Differ”, “Otherwise a Perfect Sky”.

Different forms of gender-bender: “Beg to Differ”, “Subject to Change”, “As Moonlight Unto Sunlight”.

The last few years, I’m finding myself getting more ’shippy than I used to be. There was so much of it around in the beginning, as if shipping was the main purpose of Buffyfic, that I just about deliberately scorned it. Now, it’s more like a change of pace that happens to appeal to me for the moment. And, no question, most of that has fallen to Xander: Xander/Buffy (“Dusk Over Pompeii”, “An’ Foolish Notion”, “There Ought to Be Clowns”), Xander/Dawn (“Friends with the Monster”), Xander/Faith (“the Silence in the Spaces Between”), Xander/Kennedy (“Curious Poses”), Xander/Marcie (“Phantom 309”), Xander/Nina (“Hungry Like the Wolf”), even Xander/Tara (“Otherwise a Perfect Sky”).

Truth is, I’ve explored a lot of different themes, and I’m always on the lookout for something new.

Still to come:

What kind of relationships are you most interested in writing?
For E-rated fic, what are some things your characters keep doing?
Name three favorite characters to write.
You’re applying for the fanfic writer of the year award. What five fanfics do you put in your portfolio?
