It genuinely feels to me as if it wasn’t much more than a month ago that I was still, occasionally, sitting in front of a fan, barefoot, in t-shirt and shorts while I browsed my laptop. Maybe it truly was that recent. Now I’m in sweat pants, a thermal shirt, thermal socks, and fuzzy slippers, with three space heaters aimed at me. Things change fast.

Last week, I got set to leave for work (before sun-up, though now that Daylight Savings Time has been rolled back, I’m at least arriving in the daytime), and couldn’t find my coat. “No problem,” I said to myself. “I probably left it in the car when I came in yesterday.”

Nope, not in the car. “No problem,” I said to myself. “It’s not that cold, and besides, I always keep a spare in the back seat.”

Got to work, and — nope — no spare in the back; apparently, I wore it inside one day and forgot to replace it. “No problem,” I said to myself. “It’s already 40 degrees, and it’ll just get warmer during the day.” (And, since I arrived in the morning, I’d be leaving in the early afternoon.)

By the time I got off work, it was snowing.

Fortunately, my car warms up fast. But you’d better bet I replaced that spare coat the moment I could. In fact, I believe I put two spares in the back.

We have a decent roster of people signed up for this year’s Circle of Friends ([livejournal.com profile] cof_remix). That event has never grown to our upper limit, but then our upper limit wasn’t really that high so we didn’t fall really short. We decided at the outset that we’d keep it to a dozen participants or fewer; we’ve only just now broken a dozen total, over what will now be eight years of remixes. Our biggest round was seven people; we’ve done six twice, and five twice, and this year looks to have five again. It’s fun, but —

— but one of the things I tried to do from the beginning, and mostly managed, was to get each participant remixed by someone who had never remixed him/her before. Since [livejournal.com profile] sroni, [livejournal.com profile] eilandesq, and I have participated in every round, if there were any short spaces it would generally be one of us who got remixed by someone from whom we’d already received a remix. We get along fine, so it’s not exactly a hardship, but we’re still not meeting the ideal. If we could get just one more new person …

… well, actually it would take two more newbies, or maybe a couple who had only done one or two with us and so could be strategically worked in. But one more would fix it so that I would be the only ‘leftover’.

Just one more. (Or two.)

Anybody?

Anybody?

I did ask but of the two I knew still semi-active in the fandom one is just curating things and not writing and the other has computer issues unlikely to be resolved any time soon.

Yeah that's true. Sadly most of the people I know who wrote in the Buffy verse no longer do (and until two months ago that included me)

I still write a lot--it just isn't usually fanfic these days. Fortunately, I still have a lot of short stories suitable for Remixing, though I hope their relative age isn't off-putting to anyone.

Cheers,

Scott
