Fandom Snowflake Challenge, Day 9

In your own space, set some goals for the coming year. They can be fannish or not, public or private. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

For now, I think I’ll stick with fanfic-related.

Several years in a row, I set myself — by private intention, or open statement on LJ — to write an average of one fic per month. Every year, I failed at this. On my best of such, I made it to eight.

This year, I’m tackling it again. I’ve seen what I can do on short notice; I know I can manage a dozen stories in a year’s time, so only hopeless indiscipline will prevent me from doing so. I’m part-way into the first one already, so I have a start. And, to give myself a little extra incentive (in the “putting my money where my mouth is” venue), I’ll semi-commit to what I intend those stories to be. The titles are abbreviated, and they probably won’t come out in quite that order, but in 2016 expect to see:

1. CP – Xander and yet another Slayer, figuring out where they stand and where they’ll go from there.

2. tONIDoK – two Slayers in the desert, facing choices as well as danger.
   (published May 2016 as “the Other Night I Dreamt of Knives”)
    
3. [whatever I do for RemixRedux]
   (no RemixRedux in 2016, darn it!)
    
4. BtBS – she wanders into a haven where she can’t remain, but there she sees where the future lies.
   (published March 2020 as “Beneath the Bitter Snows”)
    
5. JBN – a not particularly nice person gets a deeply unflattering view of himself.
   (published July 2019 as “Jack Be Nimble”)
    
6. [whatever I do for summer_of_giles]
   (published August 2016 as “the Final Cut”)
    
7. ZT – this one time, in soldier camp …
   (published March 2023 as “Zulu Time”)
    
8. tPoL – two people Buffy saved (and then forgot) set themselves to chart their own path through the realm of monsters.
   (published April 2023 as “the Price of Lace”)
    
9. SaM – two teams; one place; a showdown, a clash of dedicated warriors, and a judgment.
    
10. [whatever I do for circle_of_friends]
    (published December 2016 as “There Ought to Be Clowns”)
     
11. AtSR – a Slayer, a journey, and a guy who doesn’t realize quite what is riding along with him.
     
12. TPA – a Slayer-with-something-extra, a vampire (also with something extra), and a face from the past.

Except for the three that will be determined by the event in which they appear, I already know what these stories will be. It’s just a matter of transferring them from my brain to actual words … you know, that sound good and tell a story. Piece of cake.

No, hubris has never been a problem for me. Why do you ask?

“Piece of cake” is a phrase, meaning a series of words. I just hope I don’t have to eat them.

Not so much organized as trying to put myself in a position where I have to deliver. Some of the stories do need to be in a particular order (for instance, JU has to precede SAM, which likewise must come before TPA), but the order of the stories is less a commitment than a general outline that it would be a pretty good idea to follow.

I need luck only in the sense of the absence of too much bad luck. Mainly, write a story, then write another one, and keep doing it on a more or less one-per-month basis until I’m finished. That’s where I need my focus to be. At least, so I keep telling myself.
