I see that President Obama is planning to fly to Saudi Arabia to “pay his respects” at the funeral of King Abdullah.

By all accounts, Abdullah was a decent man doing his best to bring his country somewhat further out of the 7th century. Not too quickly, because he had to deal with, you know, the actual people of Saudi Arabia (still mired in the ideology of 7th century barbarism), but nonetheless doing — apparently — the best he could. I have no problem with an American president paying tribute to an extremely cautious Saudi reformer.

I do have to wonder, though …

Where were you during Margaret Thatcher’s funeral, you two-bit, narcissistic chickenshit?

Wasn't he doing something 'important', like playing golf at Martha's Vineyard? Or maybe putting together the 'strategically important' college sports bracket for that year?

Anything he does is more important than the petty pursuits in which mere mortals engage. Some of us mortals do find ourselves wishing, however, that we had an actual leader.
