Fandom Snowflake Challenge, Day 2
In your own space, create a list of at least three fannish things you'd love to receive, something you've wanted but were afraid to ask for — a fannish wish-list of sorts. Drop a link to your wish-list in the comments on this post. Maybe someone will grant a wish. Maybe you will grant a wish. If any wishes are granted, we’d love it if you link them to this post.

Even for things as mundane as birthday/Christmas presents, my family know me to be hard to shop for: generally, if I want something, I get it for myself. In fanfic terms, that usually means I write it to suit myself. There are maybe a few things, though …

1. One of my ‘wishes’ has already been granted: blondebitz produced a fantastic cover banner for “In Ev’ry Angle Greet”, and she and other artists have indicated willingness to do something for a few more stories. I nonetheless welcome anyone with artistic/PhotoShopping skills who’d be willing to tackle something on my fic-list, because I love that kind of thing but am not good at it.

2. There are various award sites and sites devoted to particular characters within a fandom. My own concentration is on the Buffyverse, so I’ve seen any number of sites for Buffy, Angel, Spike, Xander, Willow, even Giles and Cordelia. Which makes sense, that covers the big guns and the major supporting characters. But does anyone, anywhere, know of a site devoted to the delightfully entertaining Harmony? Or, even better, a fansite awards site centered on her? Because that would just be so much fun.

3. For that matter, I think I’d probably enjoy a comedic fic teaming Harmony with Drusilla. Those two would drive each other insane (oops, one of them’s already there), and that would offer the potential for many, many laughs.

(Now watch me think of something else as soon as I post this.)

As I recall, the only time they crossed paths in canon was when Spike had Dru and Buffy both tied up and was trying to decide which one of them he was going to kill. (Harmony was definitely the fourth wheel there.) Each of them, Drusilla and Harmony, lives in a world that nobody else inhabits, so even what they have in common makes them utterly incompatible. It just seems that that fundamental conflict — both daffy, in entirely different ways — would provide lots of fun narrative possibilities.

Usually, if I’d really like to see a particular story, I go on and write it. This one, though, I wish someone else would do it so I could enjoy it from the outside.

I’ve checked around in the past, so I knew that if one exists, it’s well-hidden.

Maybe some like-minded souls can get together and do a Harm-centric fic event.

I could write something like that, but …

I understand that George Lucas passed Raiders of the Lost Ark over to Steven Spielberg because this wasn’t a movie he wanted to make, it was one he wanted to WATCH. By the same token, the daffiness of Dru and Harmony bouncing off one another is something I’d rather enjoy as a consumer than as a producer.

Dru and Harmony on a common cause? Sounds hilarious! I just can't for the life of my think of anything they could be wanting to do...

They’re both basically impulse-driven, even if in Dru’s case the impulses can be triggered or augmented by psychic knowledge, so what they ‘wanted to do’ could be absolutely anything.

I actually saw a story that spoke of the crew having just dealt with an unlikely Dru-and-Harm team-up, and that it had actually been a bigger problem than any of them would have expected. I can’t remember what that story was, though.

Perhaps it could be a sort of 'we are working together because it gives us better odds at reaching our individual goals, not because we want to' relationship? That way they don't even necessarily have to have even remotely the same goal.

No doubt, there are several interesting ways the idea could be approached. I’d be interested in seeing how most of them turned out.

If I thought we could get enough people together, it would definitely be fun to do something like that. Buffy and Angel together gave us just about enough Harmony to leave us wishing for more, and fanfic devoted to her might satisfy some of that. Just a matter of seeing how much interest could be generated.
