Most of what has been going on in my life lately has been about people around me, rather than about me directly, and I wasn’t sure how much it was okay to talk about those things. I’ve been given approval to address them, though, so:

Main item — [livejournal.com profile] sroni (my daughter) miscarried. It was still early enough that it required medical analysis to confirm that this was what had happened, but they did so confirm. My wife and I went through that once (I understand that it’s fairly common, more so since pregnancy tests now offer earlier and earlier diagnoses), and I remember how much it hurt, and how it was a pain we couldn’t really get hold of, so I have some sense of how [livejournal.com profile] sroni felt and still feels. But, of course, not as strong a sense as if I were myself female.

At almost the same time, we now have news that my son’s wife Mei-li is pregnant. For a brief period it appeared that we’d have two grandchildren arriving within a few months of each other; now only the one is still hopeful.

I can’t believe how close Christmas has come before I really noticed how far along we were in the month. I mean, we’re less than two weeks from the New Year now, and it just purely snuck up on me.

Things aren’t bad now (far from it), but I still hope they get better.

My sympathies to sroni and your whole family. And prayers for a healthy pregnancy and birth for Mei-li.
