New round opening at Circle of Friends

The Circle of Friends Remix (cof_remix) is now taking sign-ups for its Round 4. Previous participants are encouraged to register for this year’s event, and newcomers are welcome. This is a deliberately small event, limited to a maximum of 10-12 entrants, but we’ve never had to turn anyone away yet, so go check it out!

Oh lordy. Part of me really wants to do this, if only because I know you want to remix Civilian and I'm weirdly curious as to what you'd do with it, but I am also reluctant because none of the writers in cof write my usual characters or pairings and I'm already going through a bit of a rough patch writing-wise and... I don't know what to do.

I'm probably best known for Willow/Angel and Willow/Spike. I do branch out into any number of other pairings, but not usually the ones you guys write, oddly enough, though I've at least done some Spuffy.

Three things.

First, you’ve written enough different types of fic by now that I don’t see you as being automatically stymied by something immediately outside your comfort zone. (Also, I see you’ve already done something that you characterized as a remix, though it re-worked an actual episode rather than a fanfic, so you’re experienced now!)

Second, even if the rules dictate that pairings don’t change, it’s entirely permissible to draw currents between two people that make a reader aware of possibilities. Done right — and with what you did in “Civilian”, I know you’re capable of doing it right — that can be a beautifully effective approach.

Third, my own experience is that some of my most satisfying work has been done when I had to somehow find the interesting — to find my own ‘take’ — in something that had no immediately clear resonance with my tastes. It’s a great feeling.

You’re not just welcome here, sroni and I have been actively hoping we could get you for this one. Jump on in!
