Family stuff.

My son, Kevin, has received approval for his China employment, and is now applying for his work visa. May not be much longer.

My wife reached three separate milestones last week:

  • She now weighs over fifteen pounds less than I do, for the first time since we lived in Memphis.
  • She now weighs less than her pre-pregnancy weight for our son, which means her lowest weight in almost twenty-five years.
  • The woman who checked her stats Friday weighed less than the amount of weight Susan has lost since I left for my last deployment. So, she’s now lighter by the equivalent of one complete petite (but adult) woman.

My daughter is still working on getting into better physical shape, but she’s decided against entering the Army Reserve. She has a debilitating condition which made it debatable in the first case, and over the past month she determined that her ‘bad days’ are just bad enough, and just frequent enough, to make a military commitment inadvisable.

Oh … and Susan has also been named co-leader, along with the commander’s wife, of my unit’s Family Readiness Group. (Anybody who watched Army Wives will have seen the FRG mentioned on a frequent basis.) She didn’t even want a leadership position, but she’s so determined that things be done right that she wound up being recognized as a natural choice.

Things aren’t all roses. We have multiple sets of difficulties, and we’re addressing them with incomplete levels of success. But we’re continuing on, and some things, at least, are going very well indeed.
