After months of intending to do it ― and saying I’d get right to it, first thing ― I finally put in a passport application. Then I went and got myself registered in the VA (only eight months after returning from Afghanistan; what can I say, I just haven’t been sick with anything). Then I took my car in for an oil change, for which it’s been weeks overdue.

Am I suddenly being all virtuous and productive? No, I just got tired of putting things off.

Last night I sat down and went over [livejournal.com profile] sroni’s draft of “Queen’s Gambit”, and mapped out the flow of her narrative point by point. This is the kind of story I could do easily … but taking what’s already done, augmenting it without simply tossing it out and doing my story, that’s a different matter. I’ll start sketching out some things over the next few days, but I’ll need to ease myself into it, get a feel for the whole thing before I begin serious work.

On the same note: though I haven’t gotten any reply yet (nor is one expected for another week or so), I’ve applied for the latest round of [livejournal.com profile] remix_redux. I’ve seen really good work done in that venue, and I’m interested to see who I’ll draw and what I can do with his/her work. Obviously, of course, I’m also keenly interested to see what will be turned out by the person who’s assigned to remix one of my stories. I can’t realistically expect what happened when [livejournal.com profile] liz_marcs’ “Revelations” was redone by [livejournal.com profile] nwhepcat as “the Ballad of Charles Whitman”, but I can hope that someone will do an interesting and original take on one of my prior works.

I won’t be going to NCO school after all. Which is okay, I wasn’t really looking forward to it. This is something I can do just as well a couple of years from now, by which point it might be pertinent. Meanwhile, there are other things I can work on.

Yep. Good times.
