So, the eve of New Year’s Eve. No great thoughts, just a few notes in passing.
So, the eve of New Year’s Eve. No great thoughts, just a few notes in passing.
- In the news today, two post-mortems. Gerald Ford, who enriched his nation by the conduct of his life. Saddam Hussein, who improved his nation by dying.
- My daughter is in Beijing. Just saw the entry in her LJ. I watched the New Year arrive in Iraq (2003) and Afghanistan (2005). She’ll see it in mainland China.
- Catching up on Ugly Betty tonight. Funny; I saw America Ferrera in a brief talk-show appearance. She’s a thoroughly decent-looking woman, nowhere near as relentlessly plain as Betty Suarez … but everything about Betty screams goodness. She’s just adorable. Maybe it will start a new style: wholesome as attractive, in contrast to the slut-next-door look that seems to have prevailed for so long.
- More space cleared in my ex-wife’s home. It’ll be awhile before we see any real gains … but then, she says it took years for the place to get into its current state, and I think we can effect the recovery more quickly than that.
- Drill this coming weekend, followed immediately by duty at Fort Bragg. I’ll also find out whether or not I’ll be doing support duty at another location, depending on what else is scheduled. The next few months are going to have several calls on my time by the Army. Fortunately, I like that.
