I gave my son an MP3 player for Christmas, and over the last couple of days I’ve used my laptop to copy songs onto it from his CDs. He’s really enjoying that, and — if I can learn more about the process of legally downloading music from the Internet — I may see about getting an MP3 myself, or maybe even spring for an iPod. I like the idea of collecting the songs I like, only the ones I like, and arranging them to suit myself. Old news for pretty much everybody who isn’t me … but then, I’ve never been one to leap into new stuff just because it’s new.
Yesterday I converted
sroni’s draft of “Queen’s Gambit” to HTML, and today I transferred it to my laptop. I’m not ready to work on it yet, but I’m moving in that direction. I have enough things on schedule in the near future that I don’t know how long it will take me to finish it (a couple of months, possibly); on the other hand, I might manage to post “God Save the Queen” as early as next week. Once those are done, it will be time for me to tackle a few stories of my own.
I’m starting to feel restless. My last platoon sergeant finished his stint, left the unit … and, five months later, volunteered for another Iraq tour. I’m not to that point, and I know what I’ll be doing clear through May. All the same, I’m getting restless. Eventually that will have to lead somewhere.
Right now, I’m just looking to the new year.
