I did a little writing on “Queen’s Gambit” yesterday, but only a little. After a full day with my Reserve unit, and then a couple of hours at the library catching up on my LJ and other Web readings, there just wasn’t a whole lot of day left … especially since my wife called from center-state to remind me that a new episode of Medium was airing that night.
There’s no cable in my current lodgings, so before I left for this week’s duty, I set the VCR to tape the Sarah Connor Chronicles, Sunday evening and yesterday evening. The process has gotten messed up in the past, so I won’t know for sure that I got both episodes of the series opener until I finish here and drive back ‘home’ this weekend. I’m really hoping, though; plus, if anything went wrong, I may have advanced my ’Net savvy to the point where I could download those episodes, assuming downloads are available.
My son spent the holidays setting up to transfer from the community college where he’d been taking classes, to the university where Susan and I both got our master’s degrees. He’s now taking a full class load there, and once he completes a few more classes, the community college will credit him with an associate degree while he continues to work on his bachelor’s. He’s a great kid, much better than I deserve, and I’m very pleased with his progress. Not too shabby for home-schooled, hmm?
And, the most recent development — one I didn’t know about when I made yesterday’s post — my language proficiency scores came in. Not as high as I’d hoped, but I didn’t truly expect better than I got … and, since the final result was better than I got in the horrendous Oral Proficiency Interview at the end of my actual language school, I feel fairly well justified in my self-study program. What will happen henceforth, I can’t say, but my unit already has several people at DLI right now who weren’t nearly as qualified as I am, so I can hope.
Things keep changing, and most of the changes are good. Overall, I’m amply satisfied with the direction my life is moving.
