Ireland/China 2025, continuing (68)
Aug. 17th, 2025 11:56 pmFifty-eighth day in China – August 17 Sunday
Up just after 9:00AM, a package delivery guy was at the door asking about something left at our door yesterday. He used his phone to translate Chinese to English, I used mine to translate English to Chinese, I managed to get across that I’d taken that package down to the front desk once we determined that it wasn’t ours.
On my way downstairs to get McDonald’s breakfast for Susan, I saw him taping the express envelope back together, so he’d properly found the one I was talking about.
Kevin came over a bit before noon; at Mei‑li’s urging, he’d been to the clinic again, got further antibiotics. He has to be careful to control the potentially-contagious aspect of the subcategory of pneumonia he has, but he should be okay in his own recovery.
We had lunch at the Gaga restaurant across the street, then he headed back to visit his own family.
Susan and I did some preliminary packing (the final stretch will be tomorrow), and said a Rosary together. I had just finished a new drabble when Kevin texted us to come on ahead to visit for a bit before dinner, on our last day with the Yins. I started off with Susan, found it was raining, which made it a good thing I’d brought along a couple of umbrellas. (Honestly, I thought I was returning them to the Yins.)
Time with Mei‑li, Kevin, Amber, Ruby. Mei‑li had ordered mutton as the main meat dish for our last day; her father didn’t eat any (since he hadn’t cooked it himself), so she packed it to take back with us. And an agreement was reached that Susan’s original wheelchair — the one we bought in Spain two years ago — would remain with the building, for the use of anyone who might need it.
Susan and I returned together to our own apartment, and at Kevin’s request she called him on WeChat as soon as we got back. The two of them wound up video-chatting for nearly an hour.
Other activities, gradually preparing for our departure tomorrow.
