Ireland/China 2025, continuing (63)
Aug. 12th, 2025 11:21 pmFifty-third day in China – August 12 Tuesday
I was up about 9:30AM, Susan already in place. I made her coffee, she’d already had some smaller snacks for breakfast. I got by with caramel popcorn, enough to carry me till lunchtime.
Mei‑li texted us from downstairs about 10:15, she’d been out to take care of business and stopped by here. We replied that we were available, and she came on up, bringing coffee for Susan. (For both of us, actually, but I don’t drink coffee so Susan got both.) She hung around for about half an hour, she and Susan doing most of the talking — but me putting in a comment or observation now and then — before leaving to get on with her day.
Joy (girlfriend of Mei‑li’s brother Jack) came by about 1:15PM, and at our request she put in another small order for grocery delivery for us. Then she and Susan left for the manicure/
Mei‑li sent us a text that Kevin had a cold or something; she didn’t want to chance him giving it to the baby, so he wouldn’t be coming to dinner tonight.
Susan and I started off at 6:00PM, had our usual dinner with the Yins (including Mei‑li, Amber, the nanny, and Ruby). Because we knew Kevin wouldn’t be showing up, we visited briefly with Amber and Mei‑li after eating, then headed back to our apartment.
About 8:25 we started a Rosary … and got a series of texts, from Joy and then from Kevin, which Susan managed to answer in breaks between the decades of prayers. And, just before 9:00PM, Kevin texted us that he was at the clinic and had been diagnosed with pneumonia, broad-spectrum antibiotics prescribed. Apparently, Mei‑li had made a good call in this particular instance.
Susan went to bed fairly early, maybe as early as 10:30PM. I stayed at things a little longer, but I was ready myself to knock off no later than 11:30.
