Ireland/China 2025, continuing (42)
Jul. 22nd, 2025 10:39 pmThirty-second day in China – July 22 Tuesday
I was up by 9:00AM, Susan already moving around. I put together breakfast for us, proceeded with the day.
The maid showed up shortly after 11:00. I was already working on my granddaughter’s birthday fic, and so focused on it that I didn’t notice when the maid finished and left.
I kept working on the story (tPHoLJ) off and on, adding and tightening, nudging it up just over 2,000 words, and I still haven’t got to the meat of it yet. This one looks to be working out okay.
We had a lunch of microwaved beef wraps. Mei‑li texted to find out if we would be going to her parents’ for dinner tonight, and I sent back that I believed we could make it. Susan and I did our daily Rosary, occupied ourselves with mundane pursuits, and started over that way at 6:00PM.
Normal dinner at the Yins’, not as many selections as at some meals but plenty as far as amounts went. It was just them and me and Susan, but Kevin got in from work around 7:30, and Amber showed up some time after that. They watched the first part of the Willie Wonka remake prequel, but decided to finish that later because it was already 9:00 by that point, so Susan and I started back.
Kevin walked with us, bringing a couple of umbrellas in case it was raining … which it wasn’t, but started within literal seconds as soon as we were outside. He covered Susan and the wheelchair with the largest umbrella, I used the other for myself, and we got back to our apartment building without incident, arriving slightly before 9:30PM. He left us at the elevators, and we made it the rest of the way unassisted.
(I counted it up some time ago, and marked the day, which is now. As of this point, I’ve reached a greater age than my mother ever did. I caught up with my father decades ago; now it’s time to level up to my grandmothers, who both lived into their nineties.)
A little more writing on Amber’s birthday fic, and then I was ready to prepare things so Susan and I could go to bed.
