Thirteenth day in China – July 3 Thursday

I woke at 7:30, Susan and I skipped breakfast, except for an apple each. We continued to monitor further communications from the Chinese family — including Kevin — with new photos and a second video of our new arrival. At noon I went down and got some more hot stuff from 7-Eleven, which constituted our lunch.

After 2:00PM, Joy showed up and took me back to the bank. Again I hit their withdrawal limit before I reached the needed total; we’re up to ¥24,500 now, so another ¥5,500 tomorrow should get us there.

Traded texts with Kevin established that he would take us with him to the hospital when he delivered dinner to Mei‑li early this evening.

When we showed up to meet him, at the gates of his and the Yins’) apartment complex, he told us he’d made a mistake, he was told “be at Building 5 at 6:00”, and he’d been tired and remembered “be there at 5:00”. He got there to find Logan hadn’t even started cooking yet. We went to a KFC on the corner, and he ordered small meals for us, and once it arrived he went to get Mei‑li’s dinner while we ate.

On to the hospital, starting off maybe 6:20PM. We navigated our way to Mei‑li’s room by the directions we’d been given while Kevin went to get something she’d requested; Mei‑li’s nanny was there with her, and Susan got to hold her new granddaughter for the first time.

(I’d forgot how soft new babies are.)

We stayed till 8:00PM, when visiting hours were over. Kevin got a cab and came back to the apartment with us. He stayed around talking till after 10:30PM before heading back to his home.

After that, Susan and I were free to get ready for bed ourselves.
