Tenth day in China – June 30 Monday

I got up around 6:30AM, Susan closer to 8:00. I had noodles for breakfast, she didn’t want any; I offered to bring her a McDonald’s breakfast, she declined. (No significance there, it’s just what happened.)

A bit after 10:00 I walked down to the grocery store, picked up a few items. (Couldn’t find lunchmeat, though, or packaged meals, and we don’t have any cookware — just an electric coffeepot and a microwave — so it’ll be necessary to get Mei-li to order some more things we can fix for ourselves.)

Apropos of that, Mei-li’s mother Laura knocked on our door at 11:00, she’d brought us a couple of small containers of dumplings. I ate about half of mine, put the rest in the fridge for later; Susan, who hadn’t really eaten anything to this point, kept going till she’d finished hers.

(Later, Susan found a WeChat message from Mei-li — sent last night! but not showing up till this afternoon — that she would be making us dumplings. So it was a nice surprise, but shouldn’t have been.)

About 12:30PM Susan lay down to rest, first having me fill a hot-water bottle (supplied by Roni while we were in Ireland). With that, the magnesium supplements I’ve been giving her (I never did locate any potassium), and time and luck, the awful back-cramps that made it difficult for her to breathe till they eased, have reduced in frequency and intensity. Which is good, because for a while there she was seriously worried, and I wasn’t without any concerns myself.

We did a Rosary in the afternoon, and just after 6:00PM we started for the Yins’ apartment. Susan walked, pushing her chair, for 8½ minutes, then rode the rest of the way. Mei-li had given us a token last night, so we were able to directly gain admittance to their apartment building without needing to have someone else let us in.

Evening meal (with fried chicken tonight; last night’s offering had included cold sliced duck). Kevin was a little later than usual coming in from work, but not enough to throw things off track. There was some discussion as to whether or not Mei-li was likely to need a caesarian section, but so far everything is proceeding nicely.

Kevin walked us as far as the outer gate of their apartment complex, then Susan and I went the rest of the way on our own. She walked more once we got across the street, but had to take back to the chair when one knee started hurting especially. On our arrival, I sent him a quick message that we’d arrived without any problems.

Bits of this and that, and Susan and I both ready for bed by 10:30PM.
