Ninth day in China – June 29 Sunday

Up about 7:15AM. Susan got up somewhat later, and I successfully negotiated a picture menu at the McDonald’s downstairs and next door, to get us each a breakfast.

The maid came by around 10:30. Later on, as arranged, Kevin showed up to get us for church, arriving 12:45PM or so. We went by cab to St. Thérèse of Lisieux; this time, neither Mei-li nor Amber were on hand.

(I didn’t mention it before — didn’t occur to me — but St. Thérèse isn’t a separate structure, it’s on the 4th floor of a building with a lot of other facilities.)

After the Mass, with Susan navigating more surely now that she’s become more accustomed to the powered chair, Kevin called another cab to get us back to the building where we’re staying. The cab fare, for a 15-minute drive, equated to about $5. I’m gradually discovering that prices are a lot lower in Shenzhen than would be expected in a big city. Shenzhen has twice the population of New York City, but two McDonald’s breakfasts were something like $4, rent in one of the nicer city apartments has been about $1,800. Try to do that in NYC.

Over to the Yins’ for our regular dinner, and minor hanging around there afterward. We don’t actually get to spend that much time with our granddaughter Amber, because she’s focused on the homework and studies for her 4th grade final exams; those are supposed to be over after the 4th of July, so another week and we get more time with her.

Kevin came back with us to our apartment, and stayed to visit for nearly an hour.

Once he left, Susan did some DVD watching and me some reading. Both of us ready for bed around 10:15PM.
