Third day in Ireland – June 13 Friday

Up a bit after 7:30AM, when Susan told me our daughter Roni was on her way, showered and dressed by the time she arrived. We went downstairs to breakfast, and Susan saw a report on her phone that Israel had launched military strikes against Iran’s nuclear program (and several of their top military leaders).

When we finished breakfast and got back up to our room, the TV was showing protests and unrest in Nairobi.

Really?

They’re rioting in Africa;
there’s strikes in Iran …

Susan managed to sleep for a bit (she’d had trouble sleeping last night, she’s been dealing with awful back-cramps that seize her completely and wake her up with the sheer pain), while Roni and I read individually and talked now and then. In the very late afternoon, I got a return email from an inquiry I’d made yesterday … and, calling the Air France desk through the number supplied, I was able for only an additional €150 to arrange a seat upgrade for Susan for the longest flights: Paris to Hong Kong and then — in August — Hong Kong to Amsterdam, giving her enough extra legroom to make her somewhat less miserable when the time comes.

(Still going to have to take her to somebody about those back-spasms, though.)

Conal showed up, after work, almost exactly 5:30PM. He couldn’t hang around like he did last night — something to do with his blood glucose monitor, since he’s diabetic — but he and Roni visited and talked with us till slightly after 7:30PM.

Susan and I went down to dinner in the neighborhood of 7:45. In the Dublin airport I had changed $300 into euros; I have less than €15 left, and that’s even after using a charge card for the larger purchases.

Once again the delayed sunset had me not noticing how late it had got till it was 10:00 PM. I took my evening meds, brushed my teeth, and worked up this post so I could settle on in to bed.
