Here goes, then.
5 Favorite older stories
- “Not Even Jimmy Olsen”, by
blairprovence
- “Father Goose and the Black Knight”, by Litmouse
- “the Way, Way Back”, by Liz Estrada
- “Alternative Lifestyle”, by A.C. Chapin
- “Slay Hard”, by
mmcgregor
- “the Secret Return of Alex Mack”, by DianeCastle
(Yes, it feels a bit off to describe this as a ‘newer story’, since it was published in 2012, but a) for me, ‘old’ is before 2000, and b) offshoots of that central story are still continuing and I’m still reading them.) - “the Perils of Witch Slaying (or How Buffy Ended up in Dinoland)”, by pprfaith
- “blindr dot com, or, the importance of coconut-milk lattes to long-term success”, by antennapedia
- “i have seen nearly every city”, by pprfaith
- Matlock (the new one with Kathy Bates)
- Derry Girls (through Netflix)
- “Shadow and Substance”
I chose this one because, in my opinion, it features the intersection of highest quality (I like practically all my fics, but I certainly like some more than others) and least attention from those who read what I write. “Shadow and Substance” was only the third Buffyfic I ever did, and that was in the time before I began posting on LiveJournal, which exposed my work to a wider audience; additionally, it didn’t feature any of the main Buffy characters — certainly not Buffy herself — and so it may be that readers of Buffyfic didn’t know quite what to make of it. (Something similar happened with “Beg to Differ”, several years later.)
