Jun. 29th, 2006 12:18 pmMy days stay busy, even though I still feel that I don’t have any ‘real’ tasks to occupy me. A general breakdown of the things I do on a regular basis:
I run in the morning, then chart my run-time and my weight. (I need to reduce both. Fortunately, those tend to go together.)
I watch a couple of episodes of Smallville on DVD in the morning. I’m working my way through Season 2 at the moment; when I finish that, I’ll check on renting Seasons 3 and 4.
I go to the Library, check my e-mails and my LiveJournal flist, and copy to a Word file any stories that look interesting, for later perusal. Then I do an online Rosetta Stone lesson. (I’m on Persian Farsi right now, looking to maintain and extend what I learned at the Special Operations school at Fort Bragg. Once I get a feel for how that goes, I think I’ll start doing Spanish as well. I’ve always wanted to learn Spanish.)
I do whatever grocery shopping is necessary for the day, then return home and make lunch. Around that time, I also do a BowFlex workout. I’ve sorted out the various exercises so that I do something different each day for three days, repeat the program the next three days, and — of course — rest on the seventh day.
I work up the day’s LiveJournal entry on my laptop (plus commentary on whatever stories I’ve read that I think deserve feedback), store those to thumb drive, and return to the Library. After a second run-through of my flist, I post my day’s entry and whatever comments I’ve made. I browse different sites for the remainder of my time at the Library.
In the evening, somewhere around preparing and eating dinner, I watch another couple of Smallville episodes. I go through one DVD per day that way. One season per week.
I also read. Currently I’m on the last available paperback in the 1642 series, though I saw another (hardback) at Hastings that I’ll read from the shelf while I wait for the paperback version to come out. I’m also watching for any further Flashman books by George McDonald Fraser; I understand there’s a new one available, but I haven’t spotted it yet. Additionally, the last time I saw her, my ex-wife gave me three or four paperback mysteries she’d enjoyed, on the assumption that I might like them as well.
Sometime in there, I’m supposed to do fic writing. After pestering
sroni for more than a year to finish “Queen’s Gambit”, I have yet to begin my part on it. If it were anybody but me, I’d be extremely irritated with the slacker; even for me, I really need to get started eventually. (Tomorrow, maybe, or maybe the day after. There are still some extraneous items I need to see to.)
That sounds like a lot. It isn’t. It’s a list of things, but not enough to explain that I end every day without having accomplished what I think I ought to. There are two possible explanations for this: I’m a compulsive type who’ll never feel that I do enough (I’ve seen people like that, so I know the type exists); or, I’m conscientious enough to recognize certain obligations but not quite industrious enough to carry them out. Naturally, I go for the second option. People who only know me online might think I’m a Type 1 who’s just kidding himself; those who know me in person are more likely to agree with my self-assessment.

Date: 2006-06-29 06:08 pm (UTC)It's amazing how much time a game of supercollapse or snood can take up. Especially once you've played enough to get pretty good. :) I think I need to take them off my computer.
