My son turns 18 today, which means no more court-ordered child support. I think Ill celebrate by making the monthly check I send his mother about 60% larger. What the heck, hes in college now, and it feels different now that I dont have to do it.
After mulling on it for awhile, today I started on a new fic. This one shouldnt be too long it just has that feel to it and I got 1,300 words done on the first round. Maybe a week, maybe less.
The weather is cooling here. I dont think the temperature broke 85° today. After months of letting my blood thin in the Afghan heat, I have to start planning on how to deal with winter when it arrives.
So, the story Im on right now; then another one when I finish (that one somewhat longer, between 20,000 and 40,000 words); then assuming nothing has come up in the meantime I can consider addressing another story Ive had in the back of my mind for a few years now.
Anticipation is fun. Doing a story is even more so. Each in its own turn.

Date: 2005-10-14 08:56 pm (UTC)I am very impressed with your portrayals of Shiela and Jenny Calender, and your various original characters (Tana and Sandy, for instance). The 'Not Quite Jimmy Olsen' factor also appeals to me, the taking of bit factors, and running with them. Hell, you even managed a compelling story about *Parker,* which I would have believed impossible...
If I had to pick a favorite (and I just read all of your stuff, over the last few days, only to recall that I'd read much of it before), it would be Whisper of a Moment. Nice portrayals of Xander, Ethan and Wesley, and the character of Dina was excellent.
You rock, thanks for the great stories!

Date: 2005-10-18 11:53 am (UTC)I very much appreciate your appreciation. It feels odd to realize that I wrote In Evry Angle Greet over four years ago, but time continues to move and I just have to try to keep up. At the time, Angle was probably the closest I had ever come to classic genfic, and absolutely was the first to use the entire Scooby Gang (or a plausible version) all at once, so its no surprise that it should be better received by fandom at large than most other things I had done.
As far as taking a deeper look into background characters, yeah, thats pretty much my trademark. Ive made a deliberate effort to go light on original characters; even Tana (the Asian Cordette in the Wish) and Sandy (the luckless young woman killed at the Bronze by VampWillow in Doppelgängland) actually come from canon. Everybody has a story; we just have to find the right one and tell it in the right way
Anyway, thanks again. Im always happy to be told I accomplished what I set out to do.
