Not QUITE on the road yet
Nov. 14th, 2022 08:12 pmWe’ve been living in our motorhome for the past month, but haven’t actually started any traveling. One of the university instructors quit without notice, and Susan answered an emergency request for help covering the gaps; that added two weeks to the date she would have taught her last class. We found a small RV park at the edge of the town where we’d been living the last year and a half; not for travelers, this one seems to be arranged for long-term residents, but the manager gave us a good rate for a one-month stay in an empty slot.
We’re still following a learning curve, but haven’t run into any insurmountable problems. Temp dropped first night we were here, and we were warned to get a heated hose for water connection. I got a 12-foot one, which turned out not to be long enough, but the supplies place was closed by then so I just made up the shortfall with our regular hose, which worked out without complication. Weather was a lot warmer after that … then another temp drop, and the unheated hose-length DID freeze, so I disconnected and thawed it out, and meanwhile bought a 25-footer to cover the next several days.
Right now? Snow. We’re staying warm, but planning to head south once we’re done here.
Not right away, though. I have something scheduled for Texas in the first week in December, but first we’ll spend a couple of weeks in Missouri. (An old friend of Susan’s lives there, and even without that Susan can always find interesting activities.)
More that has to be done, but nothing urgent at the moment. We’ll just keep living the days.
