Fandom Snowflake Challenge #8
In your own space, celebrate a personal win from the past year: it can be a list of fanworks you're especially proud of, a gift of your time to the community, a quality or skill you cultivated in yourself, something you generally feel went well. Leave a comment here saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
That won’t call for a lot of thought, because — as previously noted, though not in this meme — I only actually did three fics last year. (Other things happening to take up my time and disrupt my concentration.) So, I’ll just make observations on those three. In order, they were “the Song Remains the Same” (January 2021), “Down the Ringing Grooves of Change” (July 2021), and “Hell for Leather” (December 2021). Normally I’d say I was somewhat pleased with them, rather than especially proud, but that’s what I have to work with.
I feel I did reasonably well on “the Song Remains the Same” because this was one of my longer crossovers, and featuring particularly vivid characters (the MCU Avengers, in whose world Buffy found herself), and I believe I made the story work reasonably well.
“Down the Ringing Grooves of Change” was my 2021 submission for the
summer_of_giles. I have some small pride for that one because 1) it continues a semi-commitment (I started Summer of Giles in 2013, and have participated every year except 2015 since then), and 2) I wrote the different segments as a gift to my wife, choosing the settings from her favorite movies/TV shows.
“Hell for Leather” … I’m overall satisfied that I kept a reader curious and doubtful as to why the central character was behaving as she was, before delivering an explanation and then a wrap-up to the narrative.
Additionally, the first and last stories were ideas that I’d been holding onto for some time, so I finally delivered on things that had been waiting their turn for (in some cases) years.
Not a lot, I admit. But that’s what I have to offer.
