I’d had the basic idea for this story in mind for some time, but I’ll admit it only really started working for me when I realized that Giles’s fearsome office manager (necessary for the movement of the narrative) actually had to be Anya incognito.
I, too, have a certain fondness for the thought of Giles/Anya, given the single-episode lost-memory incarnation of it. It doesn’t escape my notice, however, that (except possibly for Deirdre) Giles was always the older member of any pairing … and he certainly isn’t here, which probably has its own degree of comfort for him.
