But probably the most prominent one is that it gives life to what Xander's fears in the original story were--and to Buffy's. He loves her, and fears doing something that would hurt her, and she's determined not to hurt him even if it means staying in a situation she hates. It's easy to imagine both of them making different choices based on very similar reasoning, and ending up in this mess. .
Canon suggests a possible escape for both of them here--if "Earshot" occurred in a way somewhat close to canon, Buffy would probably perceive something in Xander's thoughts that would be rather more useful than the random horniness she perceived there in the actual episode--or she could force this issue by confronting him and asking bluntly: "I want more. Do you?" .
On a somewhat lesser note, I like the fact that you had Faith (and by extension, Buffy) decide to give Wesley some slack after the notorious Balthazar incident. I wrote "Honesty" early on, before canon gave us much reason to like Wesley much, but he clearly had positive qualities all along, and giving him a break back then might well have paid large dividends for the Scoobies. .
This was very much worth waiting for--thank you. .
