I think of myself as intensely conservative — in fact, I’ve met exactly one person in my entire life that I would identify as more conservative than I am — so having somebody disagree with me is not a new experience. For someone to, upon discovering that we are not in accord, cease to recognize me as belonging to that segment of humanity classified as “people”, is quite a bit more rare; in fact, it’s only happened to me three times that I know of. One was in 1973, the second came after the 2006 WriterCon, and this was the third.

I did not consider her behavior to be representative of liberals as such; no, it comes across as a failing in certain persons, thankfully rare in my own life. And if you’re not like that … well, no surprise, but still something of a relief, because I would not want to think so poorly of you.
