Yes, thReen definitely seems to have linked herself to someone whose goals she doesn’t entirely share.
Yes, Gavin Park as the story’s Evil Overlord is endless fun … though I see him as less inept than ill-suited to the role he’s trying to fill. Leadership is both a learned skill and an innate attribute, and if you don’t have it, intelligence and good planning can compensate only so much.
I’m glad this worked for you. I’ve been really surprised at the reception my last two stories got: “Maxima Culpa” was enormously well received (with me thinking of it as a decent little fic that I’d done mainly because the whole thing was there in my mind and it was easy to write), while this one has attracted next to no comment (but garnered huge notice on Fanfiction.net). Additionally, I’d expected someone to identify the source material within two or three days, at most, because I’d done a literal scene-by-scene translation … but, apparently, I’m an even bigger geek than I realized, because it seems to be too obscure for easy recognition.
Thanks for your in-depth commentary. I’m already well into the next effort I post (actually, it’s been mostly done for two years now, but I was awaiting final contributions from a collaborator), and I hope it, too, will strike the right notes once you get a chance to see it.
