As to your clarification of what you meant by dilemma, I agree: Buffy’s taking advantage of Mary Claire’s brief inattention to kill Jerri essentially proves she would have let the vampire go otherwise, trading one life definitely saved against probable deaths later. On the other hand, her unhesitating treachery when she knew she could get away with it makes it equally clear that Jerri wouldn’t have had a clear road in redeeming the token later.
As far as people continuing to read me, that depends on three things. One, I keep writing. (Good odds there.) Two, what I write continues to be worth reading. (No guarantee, but past performance justifies an optimistic forecast.) Three — and this is the most chancy — new readers continue to find out about me as replacement for those who gradually trickle out of fandom (or just decide they’ve read enough aadler to last them for awhile).
