From the way you phrased it, I’m not sure you know (you’ve been reading me long enough that you could, but I don’t presume that you remember everything about everything I’ve written), but Father Nolan is a semi-continuing character in the Backstage Series, having first appeared in “the Still, Small Voice” (2005), with a cameo in “Echoes From the Battleground” (2012) and a mention or two elsewhere.
I saw the scenario I presented here as a (to Buffy) familiar tactical situation, rather than a dilemma per se; that is to say, a problem to be dealt with, and one she’d faced before. A line that I pulled out and may yet return, almost at the end, was: And vampires? Pretty much the definition of “not really people so the rules don’t apply”. As for the example that Jerri remembered having heard about, it wasn’t specific. It’s not even entirely certain whether or not Buffy was simply making up the entire thing on the spot.
Thank you for your continuing analysis, kindness, and praise. And I’ll probably still be writing long after everyone in the world has lost interest. Except, possibly, you.
