I can’t really speculate on what may have been behind the original assignment. I can’t even lend myself to deep speculation about the motives behind the actions (or complete lack of them) that we know. And, ultimately, I don’t care that much. Cowardice? A self-centered egotism so intense that other people simply have no reality? Electoral gamesmanship? Utter, bottomless, befuddled incompetence? It could be any of them, it could be a mixture of all of them, but the final conclusion still comes out to the same thing: This man doesn’t belong in the White House. He doesn’t belong in any position of authority, or respect, or stature.
Hell, he doesn’t even belong in this country. He’s so scornful of it, let him go to one of the many places he likes so much more than he likes America. I’ll chip in for the plane ticket.
Though, at bottom, I’d rather spend my money on a ringside seat at his trial. “Depraved indifference” doesn’t sound the least bit inaccurate in this case.
