We get into the habit of following favorite writers, and the recommendations of people whose taste we’ve learned to trust, and it becomes easy to forget just how God-awful so much fanfic is, maybe most fanfic or even nearly all fanfic. Even people with genuine talent get caught up in stroking their own preferences — or those of like-minded souls — which results in the proliferation of ‘category’ fanfic of the type I decried/derided on Day 11.
There’s really good work out there, and I spend a substantial quantity of my time trying to find more. There’s also a horrendous amount of crap, and more every day.
That said, I think it’s altogether possible that Fillion would get a kick out of the story you cited.
