I actually have a more sympathetic view of Rebecca than you do. Her goals, as she named them, aren’t especially unreasonable given the new realities of which she’s been made aware; she made it clear that it isn’t extended lifespan per se that interests her, but what she can accomplish with it. And, yes, twice now her actions have endangered others … but the first time, it was due to ignorance, and the second — when she was being cautious to the point of acquiring a guide and observer to aid her in her quest — she was actively deceived. Her main problem, now and then, isn’t what she wants or how badly she wants it, but her readiness to override the will of others (with drugs in Angel’s case, with magical hijacking followed by imprisonment in Virginia’s) in order to get what she wants. That one is always bad news.

It’s possible that my current opinion of Dustin has changed less than yours because my original opinion of him wasn’t as low. I didn’t see him, then, as the scum of the earth, but as a cocky teenager for whom girls were recreation rather than people. No active misogyny there — he doesn’t/didn’t hate women, or enjoy hurting them — but a blithe disregard of their personhood. (As in, he never denied it, he just didn’t care.) Yes, we are seeing more in him than before, or at least the possibility of more; yes, he makes a somewhat better impression than previously. He’s young enough to mature out of some of the defects in his character, and if he should turn into someone that we could actually respect, fine by me; he just hasn’t got there yet.

I wonder if Natalie will tickle your mind sometime in the future?

Maybe. Or maybe I have an idea in the back of my mind already. Time will tell.
